Bangladesh’s SIXR Cricket Club booked their place in the semifinals of the Hua Hin Cricket Sixes after a strong performance in Thailand on Friday.

The six a side tournament is being held from June 29 to July 4 at the Alan Cooke Ground.

SIXR opened the day with a six wicket win over SPCG. Ahmed Raihan Ahsanullah, Mashiur Rahman Ronnie and Aqueed Kader Chowdhury claimed one wicket each to help restrict the opposition. Chasing 49, Shakir Habib Gandhi led the way with 22 runs as SIXR comfortably reached the target.

They followed it up with another six wicket victory, this time against SCC Maldives. Gandhi again starred with the bat, smashing 40 runs from just 17 balls to guide his side to another impressive win.

SIXR’s match against The Follies was abandoned because of rain, with both teams sharing the points.

The Bangladeshi side, however, suffered defeats against Melbourne Mavericks and NT Roaring Lions during the group stage.

Despite those losses, SIXR secured a place in the last four and will face Melbourne Mavericks in the first semifinal on Saturday. NT Roaring Lions will meet The Follies in the second semifinal. The tournament final will also be played later the same day.

The Hua Hin Cricket Sixes is an annual tournament in Thailand that has been held since 2005. Bangladesh has regularly been represented in the competition, with SIXR Cricket Club carrying the country’s hopes in this year’s edition.
