Bangladesh has urged the international community to renew its solidarity and adopt people-centred policies to drive social development and justice, emphasising the necessity of building inclusive and compassionate societies with equal opportunities for all.
Permanent Representative Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury made the call while addressing the 64th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD64) at United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York on Tuesday.
In his statement, the envoy stressed the critical importance of placing individuals at the heart of all development initiatives.
He outlined Bangladesh’s own comprehensive and holistic development strategy, which prioritises rural development, the empowerment of women, youth development, robust social protection schemes, climate resilience, and inclusive financial systems.
Ambassador Salahuddin also advocated for enhanced global cooperation, specifically in the fields of debt relief for vulnerable nations, effective disaster response mechanisms, and the protection of persons displaced by persecution.
CSocD64 session is convening at the UN Headquarters in New York from 2 to 10 February 2026. Bangladesh holds membership in the Commission for the 2023-2027 term.
