Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Abida Islam has called for deeper trade and investment cooperation with Wales at the Wales-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Business Expo and Seminar, urging Welsh firms to explore opportunities in Bangladesh’s fast-growing economy.
Addressing policymakers, business leaders and investors in Wales, she highlighted Bangladesh’s upward growth trajectory and its rising appeal to global investors, according to a message received on Wednesday.
The event was attended by Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan Louise Fleet, Wales Finance Minister Mark Drakeford and Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens.
Abida pointed to key sectors with high scope for collaboration, including renewable energy, life sciences, financial technology, semiconductors, education, tourism and agro-processing. She urged Welsh companies to join upcoming trade missions to Bangladesh to expand commercial engagement.
She also took part in a panel discussion and interactive Q&A session, outlining Bangladesh’s investment readiness, competitive market and innovation priorities.
On the sidelines, the high commissioner held meetings with representatives of FinTech Wales and the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade in Wales to discuss future institutional cooperation.
The seminar reinforced growing Bangladesh-Wales economic momentum and prospects for expanded investment, trade and strategic partnerships, the message added.
