The interim government has decided to purchase 17,050 units of 12-bore shotguns for the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party. The price of each shotgun stands at $146, which amounts to Tk20,893 each.
The Advisory Council Committee on Government Purchase chaired by Salehuddin Ahmed, adviser to the Ministry of Finance, approved the proposal at a meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
17,050 units of 12-bore shotguns will be purchased in the ongoing 2025–26 fiscal year, sources revealed, with the total expenditure expected to amount to Tk35.62 crore.
The purchase may be financed through bank loans.
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs submitted the procurement proposal to the meeting of the advisory committee on government purchase.
Earlier on 9 November, the Advisory Council Committee on Economic Affairs approved a proposal to procure 17,050 units of 12-bore shotguns for the Ansar and Village Defence Party through the direct purchase method.
When bids were invited for the direct purchase of the shotguns, four firms submitted proposals. After completing all procurement procedures and negotiating with the bidders, a decision was made to make the purchase from the lowest bidder, Turkey’s Bay Galata.
