The government is working to transition Bangladesh from a labour-based economy to one driven by knowledge and innovation, with a strategic focus on high-tech sectors such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced chip design, and bio-electronics.
Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam said the country aims to establish itself not merely as a consumer of technology, but as a global innovator and manufacturer.
The minister made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled “Bangladesh Deep-Tech Future” on Sunday.
The session was held on the second day of National Semiconductor Symposium and BEAR (BEAR) Summit 2026 at the Novo Theatre in Dhaka.
During the discussion, the minister called for “Made in Bangladesh” brand to be prioritised in the future innovation and export of technological products and services.
Assuring that all necessary cooperation for the development of the semiconductor and deep-tech sectors would continue, he emphasised that the nation’s youth can lead this industry.
He further pledged that the government would support young innovators through research and policy initiatives.
Following the session, Professor Dimitrios Peroulis, senior vice president of Purdue University, presented the keynote paper at Global Academic Plenary Session.
The event was also attended by Md Anwar Hossain, secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology; Professor Muhammad Mustafa Hussain of Purdue University and chief architect of Silicon River Bangladesh; and Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan, director general of Novo Theatre.
