A Bangladesh Air Force C-130J transport aircraft has departed for Afghanistan Friday Morning, carrying essential humanitarian aid for the victims of the recent devastating earthquake. The mission underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to providing assistance to those affected by the disaster.
The earthquake, which struck eastern Afghanistan, has resulted in significant loss of life and widespread destruction. Following directives from Chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh Air Force’s took timely response with aim to alleviate the suffering of the quake victims.
Afghanistan Earthquake: A Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds
The recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has left over 1,400 people dead and more than 3,400 injured, with over 6,700 homes destroyed. The affected provinces, Kunar and Nangarhar, are grappling with the aftermath, and survivors are in dire need of assistance. Rescue operations have been hampered by challenging terrain and aftershocks, which have further disrupted relief efforts.
International aid organizations, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the United Nations, have warned of a growing humanitarian crisis. Approximately 84,000 people are directly and indirectly affected, with thousands displaced. However, limited funding and logistical challenges are hindering the delivery of essential supplies. The World Health Organization has highlighted a $3 million shortfall for critical medical supplies, while the World Food Programme can only sustain aid for four more weeks. Factors such as Afghanistan’s international isolation, donor fatigue tied to the Taliban’s policies, and harsh weather further restrict assistance and recovery efforts, reports Reuters.

In response to the crisis, Bangladesh has mobilized resources to provide aid to Afghanistan. The C-130J aircraft, equipped to carry substantial cargo, is transporting essential supplies, including food, water, and medical resources, to the affected regions.
