Bangladesh is seeking to deepen international cooperation on artificial intelligence at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2026 in Shanghai, where global leaders, policymakers and technology executives are discussing the future of AI, emerging technologies and digital governance.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Adviser Faqir Mahbub Anam is representing Bangladesh at the four-day conference, which runs from 17 to 20 July.
Chinese President Xi Jinping inaugurated the event on Friday. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres also addressed the opening session, highlighting growing international cooperation in the responsible development and governance of artificial intelligence.
The conference has brought together heads of government, policymakers, technology leaders, researchers, innovators and representatives of leading global technology companies to discuss artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, AI governance, innovation, digital transformation and sustainable development.
According to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Anam will take part in a series of high-level sessions, bilateral meetings and discussions with global technology leaders and policymakers.
He is expected to present Bangladesh’s progress in digital transformation, AI-driven innovation, smart governance and human resource development while exploring opportunities for international cooperation in artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, research, investment and capacity building.
The ministry said Bangladesh’s participation in WAIC 2026 reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to build a knowledge-based, innovation-driven and digitally empowered nation.
