Bangladesh and China on Tuesday pledged to work together on water resources management, with a focus on conservation, environmental balance and tackling floods, droughts, waterlogging and river erosion.
The commitment came during a courtesy call by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee at his Secretariat office.
State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad was also present.
Anee said Bangladesh and China were long-standing and time-tested friends and maintained strong bilateral relations.
He called for greater cooperation between the two countries in exchanging knowledge and experience in water resources management, education, technological cooperation, professional capacity development and research.
Yao Wen said China was interested in working with Bangladesh to conserve water resources and maintain environmental balance.
He also said China wanted to support Bangladesh in addressing challenges related to water resources management, floods, droughts, waterlogging and river erosion.
Water Resources Secretary AKM Shahabuddin and Chinese Embassy Economic and Commercial Counsellor Song Yang were also present at the meeting.
