Bangladesh Bank on Monday issued the official holiday calendar for 2026, confirming that financial institutions will observe 28 closure days next year, aside from regular weekends.
The circular, released by the Department of Financial Institutions and Markets, was sent to managing directors and CEOs of all financial institutions.
The holiday list covers major religious festivals and national observances. The year’s first holiday will fall on 4 February for Shab-e-Barat, followed by 21 February for Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day.
The longest breaks will take place around the two Eids. For Eid-ul-Fitr, financial institutions will be closed for five days from 19–23 March, covering Juma-tul-Bida, Eid day and the two following days — with two of these overlapping the weekend.
For Eid-ul-Adha, another five-day closure from 26–31 May has been set, also encompassing two weekend holidays.
Bangladesh Bank said the schedule for 2026 is aligned with the public holiday gazette issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on 9 November.
