Bangladesh Ansar, Bangladesh Police and Border Guard Bangladesh made winning starts on the opening day of the Victory Day Handball Tournament 2025 for men and women.
The tournament began on Friday at the Shahid Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium, marking the Great Victory Day celebrations. A total of eight teams are taking part in the competition.
In the women’s section, Bangladesh Ansar opened their campaign with a dominant win. They defeated Farakka Tamal Sports Academy by 53 to 15 goals. Bangladesh Ansar took a strong lead of 26 to 6 goals at halftime and controlled the match throughout.
In the second women’s match of the day, Bangladesh Police secured a clear victory over Border Guard Bangladesh. Police won the match by 31 to 22 goals. At the break, Bangladesh Police were already ahead by 14 to 12 goals.
The men’s competition also started with exciting matches. In the first men’s match, Border Guard Bangladesh defeated Team Handball Dhaka by 52 to 18 goals. Border Guard Bangladesh led 25 to 10 goals at halftime and maintained their dominance in the second half.
In the last match of the day, Bangladesh Ansar beat Bangladesh Police by 34 to 25 goals. Bangladesh Ansar went into the break with a 16 to 10 goal lead and extended their advantage in the second half.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by the Treasurer of the Bangladesh Handball Federation, Md Khaled Anwar. Senior officials of the federation, including General Secretary Md Salauddin Ahmed, were also present at the opening ceremony along with other officials.
The competition will continue on Saturday with several matches scheduled throughout the day. In the men’s section, Border Guard Bangladesh will face Bangladesh Police at 10:00 am. At 12:00 pm, Team Handball Dhaka will take on Bangladesh Ansar.
In the women’s section, Bangladesh Ansar will play Border Guard Bangladesh at 2:00 pm in a key match. The day will end with Bangladesh Police facing Farakka Tamal Sports Academy at 3:00 pm.
The Victory Day Handball Tournament aims to promote the sport and honor the spirit of the Great Victory Day through competitive handball action.
