Bangladesh has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for three additional apparel factories from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), further cementing its status as a global frontrunner in sustainable manufacturing.
This brings the total number of LEED-certified factories in the country to 261, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). Among these, 109 factories have achieved LEED Platinum, 133 are rated Gold, 15 hold Silver, and 4 are classified as Certified.
The three newly certified factories, Faisal Spinning Mills Limited’s Units 1, 2, and 3, earned a Silver rating with a score of 58 points each.
LEED is the most recognized green building certification worldwide, assessing facilities based on their sustainability in areas such as construction practices, energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and overall environmental impact.
The LEED certification process evaluates projects on a 110-point scale across nine categories. Factories achieving scores of 80 or above receive LEED Platinum, scores between 60 and 79 qualify for Gold, 50–59 points earn Silver, and 40–49 points result in Certified status. Both new and renovated buildings are eligible for certification.
