The Bandarban district administration has refuted reports regarding travel restrictions on various tourist spots, labelling such information as entirely baseless.

Additional District Magistrate SM Hasan confirmed the matter on Tuesday morning, stating that a public notice has been issued to dispel confusion among public.

According to the official notice, a fake circular – bearing the name and signature of Bandarban Hill District deputy commissioner’s office – has been circulating on Facebook and other social media platforms.

The fraudulent post claimed that travel bans had been imposed on various tourist locations.

The administration clarified that district commissioner’s office has not issued or publicised any such notification. The circulated report was described as “completely false, fabricated, and misleading,” and public has been urged not to be swayed by the misinformation.

The clarification follows the spread of an “emergency public notice” dated 21 June 2026, which was purportedly signed by Md Sajjad Hossain, assistant commissioner of Local Government and Law & Order Branch.

The document had claimed an indefinite ban on tourism in several areas due to security reasons. The resulting anxiety among tourists and public prompted the district administration to take active measures to refute the claims.
