A new women-led film, Gulshaner Chameli, is set to explore politics, abuse of power and the dark realities of elite society.
Popular Indian actress Madhumita Sarcar will play the lead role in the film.
Now, internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhan is also likely to join the project in a key role.
Badhan confirmed the development saying discussions are currently underway.
“Yes, we are in talks regarding the film. The official announcement will probably come on 1 August,” she said.
“In the film, I will portray a human rights activist, who is also a lawyer.”
The story centres on the life of a sex worker who repeatedly becomes a victim of political power despite committing no crime.
Through her journey, the film will explore various dark aspects of society and politics.
Breaking away from the conventional commercial film formula, Gulshaner Chameli will not feature a traditional male protagonist.
Instead, the narrative will revolve entirely around its female lead, highlighting her struggles and transformation as circumstances change.
Earlier, Madhumita Sarcar confirmed that she would play the central character in the film.
She also said she was eagerly looking forward to travelling to Bangladesh for the shoot.
If everything proceeds as planned, filming is expected to begin in Bangladesh in November or December.
