An auto-rickshaw driver was killed after two battery-run auto-rickshaws collided in the capital’s Chawkbazar area on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Dabir Ahmed, 50, of Ashtamonisha village in Bhangura upazila of Pabna. He lived in the Mahdinagar area of Kamrangirchar.
Ratan, owner of the auto-rickshaw garage where Dabir worked, said local people told him that the two vehicles collided in front of Urdu Road Mosque at around 4pm.
He said the driver of the other auto-rickshaw took Dabir to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and left him there.
Dabir received primary treatment at the hospital, but his condition deteriorated on his way home. Ratan then took him back to the hospital at around 8:00 pm.
Doctors examined Dabir and declared him dead at around 8:30 pm, Ratan said.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy and the police station concerned had been informed.
