Australian police have launched an investigation following allegations of historical sexual assault made by actress Ruby Rose against singer Katy Perry. Perry has strongly denied the claims.
Victoria Police confirmed that detectives are examining an allegation involving an incident said to have taken place in Melbourne in 2010 at a licensed venue in the city’s central business district. Authorities did not name the individuals involved, citing the ongoing investigation.
Rose, best known for ‘Orange Is the New Black’, has said she is in contact with investigators and has recently posted detailed allegations on social media.
A police spokesperson said the inquiry is ongoing and further comment would be inappropriate at this stage.
Perry’s representatives have rejected the allegations, describing them as “categorically false” and “reckless”. They also referred to what they called a pattern of similar public claims made by Rose in the past, which have been denied by those named.
Rose has said she will not comment further while the investigation is underway, stating that she has submitted her reports to police and will step back from public discussion of the matter.
