A Dhaka court on Monday ordered that Md Emdadul Huq Emdad, the office secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League, be shown arrested in an attempted murder case filed with Gulshan Police Station.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Refatullah passed the order following a hearing. The court’s directive came after a review of the evidence and information presented by the prosecution.
Earlier, the defense lawyer, Moksedul Hasan Mondal, had filed a petition requesting that the accused Jubo League leader not be shown arrested in this case, but the court rejected the plea. According to case documents, Emdadul Huq is currently in jail after being arrested in connection with another case.
The present case involves allegations of attacks and shootings on students and the public in the Notun Bazar area under Vatara Police Station during the anti-discrimination student Movement.
The case also names the former home minister, senior law enforcement officials, and numerous other individuals as accused. Sources confirmed that the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
