Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed general secretary candidate Mazharul Islam has stated that the attempt to disrupt the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election has failed.
Speaking to reporters on Friday afternoon, he alleged, “A group of leaders clung to the ‘blame game’ and attempted to undermine the election. Former leaders engaged in irregular meetings at the commission, Chhatra Dal leaders participated in illegal activities.
“They distributed leaflets in the halls, misbehaved with journalists, and forcefully entered polling centers, all in an effort to disrupt the electoral process. However, their attempts have been unsuccessful.”
Mazharul further claimed that allegations of “vote rigging” raised by some teachers and organizations were proven false. “CCTV footage and the testimonies of those affected have disproven these accusations,” he said.
He also noted that pressure was applied on the administration from the outset to ensure the election’s transparency. “We wanted students to vote freely and without any manipulation. We had to pressure the administration to take a firm stance on this matter,” he explained.
Mazharul added that nearly 70 per cent of students cast their votes, which he believes is clear evidence that the election was conducted fairly. He emphasised that the trust of students was the real strength of the election.
“If you perform well, the students will choose you. If you attempt to manipulate votes, political bankruptcy is all that awaits,” he stated.
The Islami Chhatra Shibir leader also urged the administration to increase manpower for vote counting and ensure the results are announced promptly.
