Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained two more associates of accused Philip in Nalitabari upazila, Sherpur on Monday, following the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
According to a press statement, a patrol team from the Baromari BOP under the 39 Battalion of BGB in Mymensingh apprehended the two men from the Baromari border area in the upazila.
The detainees were identified as human trafficker Philip’s in-law, Benjamin Chiran, 45, and his close associate, Sishal, 28, who were reportedly involved in facilitating illegal cross-border movements.
Earlier, the BGB had detained Philip’s wife, Delta Chiran; his father-in-law, Yarson Rongi; and another associate, Luis Lengminja, and handed them over to police for further investigation.
Osman Hadi, a prospective independent candidate from Dhaka-8, was critically injured on Friday when he was shot in the head while traveling in a moving battery-run rickshaw, the assailant firing from a motorcycle.
He was initially admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for emergency surgery before being transferred to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.
