A Manikganj court has ordered the main accused in the killing of seven-year-old Atika to be sent to a juvenile correction centre following his arrest.
The accused, Naeem, 15, was produced before the court on Sunday afternoon.
After his statement was recorded under Section 164, Women and Children Tribunal Judge Md Assamsu Jaglul Hossain issued the order.
Naeem, son of Pannu Mia of Bonparil Southpara village under Hatipara Union in Manikganj Sadar, was arrested on Saturday morning from Nawabganj in Dhaka.
A case was filed on Saturday by the victim’s mother, Arifa Akter, naming five individuals in connection with the incident.
Police said Atika went missing on Thursday while attending a wedding ceremony in Bonparil Southpara village.
Her body was later recovered the same night from a nearby cornfield.
Following the incident, Naeem’s father Pannu Mia and uncle Fazlu were beaten to death by locals on suspicion of involvement, while his brother Nazmul was injured in the attack.
