The International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) on Sunday showed ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, former lawmaker for Chattogram-6, and former army officer Ziaul Ahsan arrested in a case of crimes against humanity involving enforced disappearance and murder.

Following a petition by the prosecution, the tribunal also granted permission to interrogate the accused for one day each at a convenient time within the next 15 days.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim conducted the hearing on behalf of the prosecution. M Hasan Imam appeared as the defence lawyer for Fazle Karim, while Naznin Nahar represented Ziaul Ahsan.

The tribunal has directed the prosecution to submit the investigation report by June 21, following a request for a two-month period to complete the probe.

The prosecution stated that the case pertains to the 2010 abduction and subsequent murder of Syed Abu Jafar, the former chairman of Bagwan Union Parishad in Raozan, Chattogram.

Fazle Karim Chowdhury is already under arrest in connection with another case involving the killing of Chhatra Dal leader Wasim and several others during the July-August mass uprising in Chattogram.

Similarly, Ziaul Ahsan was previously arrested in a separate case concerning disappearances and murders during the fallen Awami League regime, a case which is currently at the testimony stage.
