At least seven people have been killed and upwards of 80 individuals remain missing following a landslide in Indonesia.
The catastrophe occurred in the West Bandung area, located south-east of Jakarta, after the region experienced multiple days of heavy rain, reports BBC.
Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency reported that more than 30 residences were demolished as the landslide engulfed entire neighbourhoods.
The disaster struck the village of Pasirlangu at roughly 2:30am on Saturday (19:30 GMT).
According to Abdul Muhari, the communication chief of the National Search Agency, two dozen residents were successfully moved to safety from the impacted zone. Visuals provided by the local media outlets depicted houses completely submerged under mud and wreckage. In response to the tragedy, officials have declared alerts for flooding, landslides, and extreme weather throughout the surrounding province.
