Bangladesh ‘A’ sealed their place in the Rising Stars Asia Cup final with a tense Super Over win against India ‘A’ — a contest that delivered the drama of a full international. India’s veteran spinner Ravi Ashwin added to the post-match chatter with a playful jab at his own side.
The match reached boiling point at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha. India needed four off the final ball of their chase. Harsh Dubey drove to long-on and managed three runs, and an overthrow from wicketkeeper Akbar Ali gifted the extra run needed to tie the match on 194.
But Bangladesh regrouped brilliantly in the Super Over.
Posting on his official X account earlier today, Ashwin wrote:
“Please watch the India ‘A’ vs Bangladesh ‘A’ match from yesterday evening if you haven’t already. A real test of patience.”
Ripon Mondol removed Indian captain Jitesh Sharma with the first ball — bowled while attempting a reverse scoop — and dismissed Ashutosh Sharma next delivery. India failed to score, leaving Bangladesh needing only one run, which they managed despite losing a wicket.
Jitesh later took responsibility for the defeat, saying:
“It was a great game. A good lesson for us. I’m taking all the blame. As a senior player, I should have finished the game.”
Bangladesh will now meet Pakistan Shaheens in tomorrow’s final at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha.
