Around 50 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its associate organisations joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj on Tuesday afternoon.
The joining programme was held in the area adjacent to the upazila fire service office.
Before the event, a doa mahfil was organised seeking the eternal peace of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Upazila BNP President Md Yazdani Alim Al Raji welcomed the new members.
Among the notable entrants were Alamgir Reza, general secretary of Ward No 4 of Bholahat Union Awami League, Upazila Swechchhasebak League Organising Secretary Abdur Rahman and union parishad member Sadikul Islam.
Under their leadership, leaders and activists from different levels of the Awami League joined the BNP.
After joining, Alamgir Reza and Abdur Rahman said they had confidence in the BNP’s ideology and its current leadership and had therefore joined the struggle to realise the rights of the people.
Welcoming the new members, BNP leader Alim Al Raji said those joining the party to protect the country and democracy would work together in unity.
Local leaders of the upazila BNP and its associate organisations were present at the programme.
