Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has instructed the military and civil administration to carry out their responsibilities in the upcoming parliamentary election and referendum with professionalism, neutrality, discipline, patience, and civic-friendly conduct.
The directive was issued during his visit to the Rangpur Area on Tuesday morning, as part of an assessment of the overall law and order situation ahead of the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum.
The visit also aimed to inspect army personnel deployed under the “In Aid to the Civil Power” arrangement and to provide operational guidance.
At around 10am, the army chief held a coordination meeting at the Rangpur Circuit House with senior military officers, divisional and district administration officials, and representatives from various law enforcement agencies.
Discussions focused on inter-agency coordination, security preparedness, and measures to ensure the election is conducted in a peaceful, neutral, and fair manner.
Later, General Waker-Uz-Zaman addressed troops deployed at the Shahid Abu Sayed Stadium. He reviewed on-ground activities, observed the readiness of the deployed forces, and exchanged views with officials from the civil administration.
During the interaction, he reiterated the importance of maintaining discipline, restraint, and a people-friendly approach while performing election-related duties.
The army chief emphasised that professionalism and neutrality must remain central to the conduct of all forces involved in maintaining law and order during the election and referendum period.
During the tour, he was accompanied by the general officer commanding of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, GOC of the 66 Infantry Division and area commander of Rangpur Area, senior officers from Army Headquarters, and other military officials. Senior representatives from the Rangpur divisional administration, law enforcement agencies, and members of the media were also present.
