After months away from Bollywood playback singing, Arijit Singh has made his much-awaited return with ‘Yeh Awarapan’, the title track from Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming film Awarapan 2, states News18.
Released by Sony Music India and Vishesh Films, the song reunites Arijit with composer Amaal Mallik, while the lyrics have been penned by Rashmi-Virag.
The emotional ballad revisits the themes of love, longing and redemption that made the original Awarapan a cult favourite among fans.
The music video follows Emraan Hashmi’s character, Shivam Pandit, still haunted by memories of his lost love, Aaliyah Hamid, portrayed by Shriya Saran in the 2007 film.
One of the video’s most poignant moments shows Shivam visiting Aaliyah’s grave, placing a red rose as a tribute while reflecting on a love that continues to shape his life.
Arijit’s soulful vocals elevate the melancholic narrative, adding emotional depth to the visuals as the story explores grief, heartbreak and enduring devotion.
The release has generated significant excitement, as it marks Arijit Singh’s return to playback singing several months after he announced he would step away from Bollywood playback assignments.
Fans quickly flooded social media with praise for both the song and the reunion between the singer and composer Amaal Mallik.
One fan wrote, “Goosebumps! It’s such a lovely song. Amaal + Arijit Singh = perfection,” while another commented, “Arijit Singh is not just a singer, he is an emotion.”
Others celebrated the return of the popular Arijit-Amaal collaboration, calling it a “deadly combination.”
Awarapan 2 is directed by Nitin Kakkar, written by Bilal Siddiqi, and produced by Vishesh Bhatt under the banner of Vishesh Films.
Alongside Emraan Hashmi, the film stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Suvinder Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, Atul Kumar and Aniruddh Rawal.
The film is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14, 2026, while Yeh Awarapan is now available across major music streaming platforms.
