The release date of the much-anticipated horror film ‘Andhar’ is expected to be announced after the ongoing football World Cup concludes, according to the makers, as post-production work continues in full swing.
Directed by Raihan Rafi, the big-budget supernatural thriller has already generated strong audience curiosity due to its scale and ensemble cast. The story and screenplay have been developed by Shakib Chowdhury, alongside Saidus Khaled (Aurthohin frontman Bassbaba Sumon) and Adnan Adib Khan.
The film, first officially announced last year, is slated for a 2026 theatrical release. Shooting and dubbing have already been completed, while post-production is currently underway at a studio in Mumbai, India.
According to Shakib Chowdhury, the editing process at a reputed facility is now in its final stages, with the director and co-writer closely supervising the work.
Once post-production is completed, the team is expected to return to Bangladesh. They will then wait for the conclusion of the World Cup fever before making an official announcement regarding the release date.
A structured promotional campaign is also planned to begin shortly afterwards. The filmmakers are targeting a late-year theatrical release.
The creative team behind ‘Andhar’ has reportedly spent years researching themes of horror and the supernatural. Shakib Chowdhury and Bassbaba Sumon previously gained popularity for their radio show Bhoutist, which explored paranormal stories and folklore, an experience that heavily influenced the narrative foundation of the film.
The film features a star-studded cast including Siam Ahmed, Nazifa Tushi, Chanchal Chowdhury, Afsana Mimi, Gazi Rakayet, Mustafa Monwar and Tanjika Amin, among others.
The film will also mark the big-screen debuts of emerging talents Farrukh Ahmed Rehan and Swarnali Chaiti, adding fresh faces to the high-profile ensemble.
