Bangladeshi filmmaker Adnan Al Rajeev’s short film ‘Ali’ has added another international accolade to its growing festival journey, winning the Diversity Award at Filmfest Bremen in Germany.

The award was presented at the Bremen-based festival, supported by Brema and SWB, recognising the film’s thematic focus and storytelling approach.

Director Adnan Al Rajeev confirmed the news through social media, expressing gratitude to the festival organisers for recognising the film’s message.

Ali has already made a strong impact on the international festival circuit. It previously received a Special Mention in the Short Film section at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, followed by another Special Mention at the Kyiv International Short Film Festival in 2025. The film was also selected for the official short film category at Spain’s Valladolid International Film Week.

Ali, played by Al Amin, is set in a coastal community where women are not permitted to sing publicly. The film, shot in Sylhet in November 2024, follows a young boy with a distinct vocal talent who hides his abilities while harbouring dreams of taking part in a singing competition.
