Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC held a day-long training workshop titled “Litigation Management” at its Training Institute (AIBTI) in Dhaka on Saturday, 13 June 2026, aimed at accelerating the recovery of classified investments and strengthening legal processes across the institution. The programme brought together senior executives and branch officers as part of the bank’s broader push to improve financial stability and governance through more effective handling of defaulted exposures.
The workshop was inaugurated by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mohd Rafat Ullah Khan, who attended as chief guest. The bank said the initiative is intended to enhance legal strategy, improve case filing discipline and reinforce monitoring systems in support of its ongoing 90-day Classified Investment Recovery Campaign.
In remarks delivered at the opening session, Mohd Rafat Ullah Khan stressed that the swift recovery of classified investments is essential to safeguarding depositors’ funds and ensuring overall financial stability. He also underlined the importance of strengthening governance standards within the organisation through structured legal action and consistent follow-up of recovery cases.
He called for timely filing of cases, adoption of appropriate legal strategies and stronger coordination among departments involved in litigation and recovery activities. He further urged employees across all levels to work collectively to ensure the success of the bank’s recovery campaign, which is currently underway across branches.
Speaking at the event, the bank highlighted that effective litigation management remains a critical component in addressing non-performing investments and reducing financial stress within the banking system. The training was designed to equip officials with practical knowledge on legal procedures and recovery mechanisms.
The programme featured Md Mosharraf Hossain, Judge of the Money Loan Court, Dhaka, and Joint District Judge, as resource person. He provided detailed insights into judicial processes related to loan recovery cases, common litigation challenges faced by financial institutions, requirements for proper documentation, decree execution procedures and settlement mechanisms aimed at improving recovery outcomes.
Participants were also briefed on best practices for managing legal files, maintaining compliance with court requirements and ensuring timely progression of cases through the judicial system. The session included discussions on operational bottlenecks that often delay recovery proceedings and ways to address them through improved coordination.
The workshop was presided over by Md Abdur Rahim Duary, Principal of AIBTI and Senior Executive Vice President of the bank. Among others present were Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer Sarafat Ullah, Senior Assistant Vice President SM Zulker Nayeen, and Principal Officer Md Shamim. A total of 50 executives and officers from the head office and various branches participated in the training programme.
A statement issued in a press said the initiative is expected to strengthen the bank’s litigation management framework and contribute to more effective recovery of classified investments, which remain a key concern for maintaining asset quality and long-term financial resilience.
