An old Fair & Lovely advertisement featuring Bollywood actresses Aishwarya Rai and Mahima Chaudhry has resurfaced online, taking viewers back to the 1990s and sparking fresh discussion over Aishwarya’s voice in the commercial.
According to NDTV, the advertisement was reportedly made in the 1990s, before either actress became a major Bollywood star. Directed by filmmaker Kailash Surendranath, the commercial shows Aishwarya and Mahima meeting at an airport.
In the advertisement, Mahima compliments Aishwarya on her glowing skin and suggests that marriage could be behind her appearance. Aishwarya then says she has been using Fair & Lovely for two months.
The resurfaced video has prompted nostalgic reactions on social media, with many viewers recalling advertisements from the decade. However, Aishwarya’s voice has drawn particular attention, as it appears to have been dubbed.
A caption accompanying the video said the commercial “deserved Aishwarya Rai’s real voice”. Viewers also praised both actresses for their appearance.
“Wow, Mahima and Aishwarya — both of them are looking so pretty. Both of them are my favourite actresses,” one user commented.
Another wrote, “Fun fact: After all these years, everyone knows the reality.”
Some viewers questioned the voice used for Aishwarya. “No way in hell that’s their voice,” one comment read.
Others focused on the actresses’ looks. One viewer said Aishwarya’s appearance had nothing to do with the fairness cream featured in the advertisement.
Aishwarya’s most recent film was Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part II, released in April 2023. She played dual roles as Nandini and Oomai Rani.
