Veteran Bangladeshi actor Ahmed Sharif will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural New York Bangla Film Festival in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Bangla cinema over several decades.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be formally presented during the festival’s opening ceremony on 2 August at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center in New York.
The organisers announced that the accolade acknowledges the legendary actor’s remarkable career, powerful performances and enduring impact on the country’s film industry.
Widely regarded as one of the most distinguished figures in Bangladeshi cinema, Ahmed Sharif has earned acclaim for portraying a wide range of roles, from iconic villains to complex character parts.
His memorable performances have enriched Bangla films and continue to inspire younger generations of actors, the organisers said.
According to the festival authorities, honouring legendary figures of Bangla cinema on an international platform is one of the key objectives of the event, alongside showcasing Bengali films to global audiences.
The event is expected to bring together filmmakers, actors, cultural personalities, media professionals and cinema enthusiasts from Bangladesh and the Bangladeshi diaspora.
Running for three days from 30 July, the festival will screen Bangla films across three categories—short films, documentaries and feature films.
Awards will also be presented to the best entries in each category.
