The Convocation of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology (ADUST) was held on Saturday, where a total of 2,326 students received their graduation degrees.
The ceremony took place at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka. Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Professor Dr SMA Faiz, attended as the chief guest.
In his speech, the chief guest Professor Dr MA Faiyaz offered greetings and best wishes to the graduating students. He said, “You are the new architects of Bangladesh.”
Referring to the recent political movement, he added, “Through your heroic self-sacrifice, we have received a new Bangladesh during the July movement.” He said the primary function of a university is to enrich knowledge and innovation, and emphasised collective effort from teachers and students to advance this mission.
Former state minister for education Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan delivered his speech as the Convocation speaker. Professor Dr Mohammed Anwar Hossain, member of the University Grants Commission, addressed the event as the special guest.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology, M Shamsul Alam Liton, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam, also spoke at the ceremony. Invited guardians, educationists, writers, journalists, members of the Trustee Board, and distinguished guests were present.
Addressing the fresh graduates, Convocation Speaker Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan said that the achievement of a graduation degree comes through years of talent and hard work.
He noted that this milestone marks the beginning of a new journey into a world that is changing faster than ever before. He told the graduates that their success will depend on continuous effort, hard work, patience, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
Special guest UGC Member Professor Dr Md Anwar Hossain said the university, by reflecting the name, legacy and scholarly contribution of the eleventh-century Bengali thinker Atish Dipankar, will help produce citizens capable of contributing to a prosperous Bangladesh.
He stressed the importance of a curriculum that equips students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Board of Trustees Chairman M Shamsul Alam Liton congratulated the graduates, describing the day as one of honour and pride. He also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with this achievement.
He referred to the reality of 40 lakh highly educated unemployed young people in the country and said ADUST has prioritised the development of specialised skills alongside quality and modern education.
He said the establishment of the Skills Development Institute (SDI) is enhancing students’ practical competence, digital literacy, and vocational experience. He emphasised that investment in the education of young people is the key to their prosperity and that of the nation.
On behalf of the Chancellor of the University, the honourable president, the UGC Chairman Professor Dr SMA Faiz conferred Graduate and Master’s degrees and presented special awards to 27 students. He also personally handed over certificates and medals.
Among the special awards, 6 students received the Chancellor’s Award, 5 received the Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman’s Award, and 16 received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award. A cultural programme and a special laser show were held later in the evening.
