Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Saturday called on all, including public and semi-government institutions, to support a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum on the July Charter scheduled for 12 February.
Speaking after a public awareness meeting organised by the Cox’s Bazar district administration at Shaheed Subhash Auditorium, Adilur said the people of Bangladesh have historically opposed fascism and continue to support the referendum.
“Without the participation of the people in the uprising, Bangladesh could not have resisted fascism,” he said.
“Those who support fascism will campaign for ‘No’, while those who defend people’s rights will vote ‘Yes’.” He added that citizens who want to ensure enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings never return will stand in favour of ‘Yes’.
The meeting, chaired by Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan, was attended by senior officials, civil society members, and people from various walks of life.
Following the event, the adviser inaugurated the ‘Voter Gari’ at the Deputy Commissioner’s office to facilitate voter awareness for the referendum.
