The newly appointed press secretary to BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, Saleh Shibli, said a government accountable to the people is essential to establish a humane and welfare-oriented state.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Saturday, saying maintaining communication with newspapers on behalf of the people is part of his new responsibility and seeking cooperation from media professionals to perform the role effectively.

Saleh Shibli said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman aims to build a democratic, humane and self-reliant Bangladesh alongside the country’s democracy-loving and freedom-seeking people. To achieve this, he said, a government accountable to the people through their vote is necessary in shaping the state, government and society.

He also said an independent media is a prerequisite for establishing a democratic and accountable government, adding that BNP wants to move the country forward by understanding the hopes and language of the people.
