ACC sues 11 police over Tk3.94cr ration scam

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 11 police personnel, including four inspectors, over allegations of embezzling Tk3.94 crore through fake ration cards at the police ration centre in Jhalakathi Police Lines.

Assistant Director Md Zakir Hossain of the ACC’s Pirojpur Integrated District Office lodged the case on Thursday afternoon.

According to the case statement, the accused created 252 fake ration cards and illegally withdrew ration goods from the police ration centre between 2013 and December 2021. Investigators say the group misappropriated goods worth Tk 3.94 crore during the period.

The accused include former mess manager Md Alauddin; inspectors (Town and Traffic) Arif Mahmud, Md Al Mamun, Md Rezaul Karim and Kazi Raziul Zaman; constables Md Atiur Rahman, Md Saiful Islam and Mehedi Hasan; office assistant Md Toufiq Elahi; storekeeper Md Zahir Uddin; and sales assistant Syed Jasim Uddin.

ACC official Zakir Hossain said the accused abused their government positions and lifted ration goods through forged ration cards to embezzle public resources.

He added that investigators will include additional suspects in the case if further inquiry finds their involvement.

Jhalakathi Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman said the accused officers currently serve in different districts. He added that the police department will take necessary action in line with rules if the allegations are proven.
