The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has served a notice seeking wealth statements from Summit Group Chairman Mohammad Aziz Khan, his wife, and his daughter.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain disclosed this information at a briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Segunbagicha on Sunday.
According to ACC officials, the commission sought information about assets worth several hundred crore Taka in the names of the trio, following significant discrepancies between the assets acquired and the income declared during an ACC inquiry.
The inquiry revealed that Mohammad Aziz Khan had movable assets worth a total of Tk 330.93 crore, but no information regarding any liabilities in his name was found.
The inquiry also showed that his income tax records did not mention any immovable property, which appeared inconsistent.
Furthermore, the inquiry alleged that Aziz Khan became wealthy by transferring money out of the country to various destinations, including Singapore. However, his income tax records declared only a very small amount of assets, which does not align with his reported income.
As a result, the ACC issued a notice to Mohammad Aziz Khan under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, asking him to submit a wealth statement.
Meanwhile, the investigation found assets worth Tk 92.62 crore in the name of Aziz Khan’s wife, Anjuman Aziz Khan. These assets included immovable property worth Tk 1.57 crore and movable assets worth Tk 91.5 crore.
No information regarding any liabilities in her name was found during the inquiry.
The ACC’s investigation alleged that the value of the immovable property declared in her income tax records is significantly lower than its actual value.
Furthermore, major discrepancies were observed between her declared income and the assets acquired. Consequently, the ACC issued an asset statement notice to Anjuman Aziz Khan under the ACC Act.
In addition, the inquiry found assets worth Tk 287.43 crore in the name of Aziz Khan’s daughter, Ayesha Aziz Khan. These assets included immovable property worth Tk 7.66 crore and movable assets worth Tk 279.77 crore.
Analysis of her income tax records showed that the value of assets declared in her returns was likely much lower than their actual value. The inquiry also highlighted clear discrepancies between her declared income and the assets acquired.
The commission has approved the issuance of an asset statement notice against Ayesha Aziz Khan under Section 26(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and has ordered the submission of wealth statements from all three individuals.
