Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited sealed heavy wins on the reserve day of the Dhaka Premier League after rain interrupted both matches on Sunday. Mohammedan beat Rupganj Tigers by 200 runs at the ULAB Cricket Ground, while Abahani thrashed Brothers Union by 166 runs at BKSP.
Mohammedan built the platform with 345 for 6 after opener Mohammad Naim smashed his 11th List A century. Naim struck 100 from 136 balls with five fours and 12 sixes. Rupganj reached 53 for 5 in 16.5 overs before rain stopped play on Sunday.
Mohammedan needed only 18 overs on Monday to finish the job. Rupganj folded for 145 in 34.5 overs. Sajib Mia scored the top innings with 36 from 75 balls, but no other batter handled Mohammedan’s pace attack.
Pacer Mrityunjoy Chowdhury tore through the lower order and claimed five wickets. Rishad Hossain backed him with three wickets as Mohammedan secured their third win in three matches and stayed top of the table.
At BKSP, Abahani resumed control after rain halted Brothers Union on 49 for 1 in 12 overs during the chase of 284.
Earlier, Abahani posted 283 for 6 with three half-centuries. Mahidul Islam scored 83 from 113 balls, SM Meherob Hasan made 77 from 76 deliveries, and Mosaddek Hossain finished unbeaten on 62 from 40 balls.
Brothers failed to recover after the restart. They collapsed for 117 in 35.5 overs despite opener Jahiduzzaman scoring 40 from 58 balls.
Khaled Ahmed, Rehanatdoulla, Rakibul Hasan, Soumya Sarkar and Mahfuzur Rahman shared the wickets evenly and took two each.
The result gave Abahani their first win in three matches. They moved to seventh in the table. Mohammedan lead the standings with six points from three matches, while Prime Bank sit second on net run rate.
