Actor Govinda has claimed that someone is influencing his wife, Sunita Ahuja, amid months of speculation surrounding their marriage and allegations of infidelity. He says he anticipated a difficult phase in their relationship seven to eight years ago and intends to respond to the accusations with restraint.
In an interview with ABP Live, as reported by NDTV, Govinda said he was not concerned about public reactions, describing them as a passing phase. He added that he respected women’s reactions and preferred to remain silent rather than risk leaving lasting emotional wounds once the controversy subsided.
“I’m not focusing on what people are saying because that’s just a phase they’re going through. Everybody’s reacting this way across the country, especially ladies. I never object to ladies’ reactions. I keep quiet and respectful because I know that if I do, once this phase is over, the wounds will remain. I don’t want to cast any doubt on my behaviour, unless someone forces me to,” he said.
The actor also said he did not believe in exposing people in ways that would leave them embarrassed. He claimed that he had predicted this situation years ago and had long faced accusations that he would eventually betray those close to him.
“I said seven to eight years ago that I’d go through something like this. Now, we’re all caught in that same loop. Bad reputation has always been synonymous with my name. People have told me for years that I’d betray them one day,” he said.
Govinda alleged that a “game is being played” involving him and Sunita, suggesting that someone was influencing his wife’s views. He said that people close to a person could sometimes lose perspective and become vulnerable to outside influence.
“There comes a time in every household that your close ones can’t see beyond you. They get manipulated and influenced,” he said.
Govinda also explained why he had allowed Sunita to enjoy the spotlight, crediting her contribution to his life and career. He said he owed much of his success and reputation to his mother’s blessings and his wife’s support.
“I have eaten so much into her luck that whatever name and respect I’ve earned is because of my mother’s blessings and my wife, because of whom I’ve never looked back. So, she’s been lucky for me,” he said.
The actor insisted that he would never seek to damage his wife’s reputation. He said he would continue to deflect her allegations until those he believes are influencing her abandoned their efforts.
“I’ll keep dodging her claims till those who are influencing her get dizzy. That’s when they’ll realise they’ve messed with Govinda. Bitterness will never lead to sweetness. Once this phase passes, people will say I behaved respectfully. I’m not falling into their trap,” he added.
Govinda and Sunita’s marriage has faced public scrutiny for months following her allegations that the actor had been unfaithful. Sunita has also claimed that Govinda is having an affair with Komal Rani Swarnkar, his co-star in Roopa. Govinda has denied the allegations.
