Actor and presenter Shahriar Nazim Joy has shared a nostalgic photograph of his late father with current Speaker of Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, recalling a time when the two travelled together on an official trip to Europe.
The post, however, also drew comments from followers joking about land allotment.
In the Facebook post, Joy said his father had served as chief engineer of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), while Hafiz Uddin Ahmad was the environment and forest minister.
The two travelled together to the Netherlands and London on a two-week government visit, with Joy’s father serving as the minister’s sole companion.
Joy recalled hearing many positive things about the minister from his father during that period. His father died six years ago, while the minister has since taken on a more senior role as Speaker of Parliament.
“Today, my father is no longer here. It has been six years since he passed away. Yet the minister he accompanied on that trip has gone on to become the Speaker. I wonder whether he remembers my father, his companion on that two-week European tour. Even if he does not, it does not matter. Many people come and go in the lives of prominent figures. Those who are younger hold on to memories, while those in greater positions may not have time to dwell on them,” Joy wrote.
He clarified at the end of the post that he was sharing a personal memory of his father, not making a political statement.
The post prompted several comments from followers, some of whom jokingly brought up land. One wrote, “This time, you’ll definitely get land,” while another asked, “How many decimals of land do you need, brother?”
Joy did not explain why commenters raised the issue of land. His post focused on his late father, their shared journey with the then-minister and the memories he continues to cherish.
