FIFA has imposed a player registration ban on Mohammedan Sporting Club after the club failed to settle outstanding payments with former Iranian footballer Meysam Shah Jadeh, who played for the side during the 2022–23 season.
The ban adds to a growing list of sanctions on Bangladeshi clubs, following penalties against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club, and Bashundhara Kings.
According to a letter signed by FIFA’s Head of Disciplinary, Americo Espallagas, the restriction will remain in place until Meysam’s dues are cleared in full. If the club fails to make the payment, Mohammedan will be barred from registering players for the next three transfer windows. Copies of the decision have been sent to the club, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), and the player himself.
The reigning Bangladesh Premier League champions are now facing a crucial deadline ahead of the mid-season transfer window. Unless the issue is resolved swiftly, Mohammedan will be unable to make any squad changes.
FIFA’s registration ban portal currently lists ten active cases involving Bangladeshi clubs. Bashundhara Kings have the highest number of restrictions, with five bans, followed by Sheikh Jamal with three, and Feni Soccer Club and Mohammedan with one each. Despite their registration ban, Bashundhara Kings included three foreign players in their AFC Challenge League squad in Kuwait all of whom were unable to play due to ineligibility a move critics say reflects poor professionalism at the top level.
