Bangladesh Army’s FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid has been crowned undefeated champion in the 42nd National Chess Championship (Open Division), finishing with 8.5 points from nine games.

This is Saqlain’s second junior title and it came with relatively little resistance as leading contenders IM Manon Reja Neer and FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia did not take part. “Compared to last year, the opponents were easier. My focus and form helped me win comfortably,” said Saqlain.

With a rating of 2317, he recently placed third in the National Open. He now has his sights set on becoming an International Master and thanked the Chess Federation for appointing a Russian coach.

In the girls’ division, FM Warsia Khusbu won the title, while CM Nusrat Jahan Alo finished runner-up.
