The United States is set to introduce a new wave of trade restrictions against China, including a hefty 100% additional tariff on Chinese imports starting from 1 November, US President Donald Trump announced on Friday.
In a post on Truth Social, the US president declared, “Starting 1 November 2025 (or sooner, depending on any further actions or changes taken by China), the United States of America will impose a tariff of 100% on China, over and above any tariff that they are currently paying.”
According to analysts, tensions between the two countries have been rising since China imposed restrictions on the export of rare minerals.
Economists have warned that the decision could trigger retaliatory measures from China and disrupt global supply chains, potentially leading to higher prices for US consumers.
