Ex-state minister Kamal Majumder’s son arrested in Dhaka

Shahed Ahmed Majumder, son of former state minister for industries and former Dhaka-15 lawmaker Kamal Ahmed Majumder, was detained by members of police on Saturday night.

He was picked up from his residence in Gulshan-1, Dhaka, around 8:00pm and later handed over to Gulshan Police Station, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman.

According to OC Hafizur, Shahed is accused in a murder case filed with Mirpur Police Station in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement. He also faces a separate case under the Anti-Terrorism Act filed with Gulshan Police Station.

Shahed’s father, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, was arrested on the night of 19 October 2024 in connection with multiple murder cases related to the same student movement. He remains in custody.

Following a change in government in August 2024, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) launched an investigation into Kamal Majumder. After the inquiry, the ACC filed two cases against Kamal and his son Shahed, accusing them of amassing illegal wealth.

According to the ACC’s case documents, Shahed allegedly acquired assets worth Tk 2,39,73,736 through abuse of power.
