Bangladesh’s Jamal Hossain has captured the Telangana Golconda Masters 2025 title after a week of commanding golf in Hyderabad. The final round at the Hyderabad Golf Association course on 26 September was cancelled due to rain, leaving the 40-year-old declared champion on the basis of his 54-hole aggregate score.

Jamal, already a five-time winner on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), produced an outstanding display across three rounds. He fired scores of 61, 62 and 64 to finish at 23-under-par 187, securing the trophy by a four-shot margin over India’s Akshay Sharma and Khalin Joshi.

As a result, the 40-year-old from Dhaka, collected the winning purse of INR 15 lakh that propelled him from 14th place to 10th position in the 2025 PGTI Order of Merit.

From the very first day, Jamal signalled his intent. He opened with a stunning nine-under-par round to seize the lead, before backing it up with an equally brilliant eight-under on 24 September. That second round featured six birdies and a spectacular eagle at the par-four 15th, a hole he had also birdied in round one and which became a favourite hunting ground throughout the week.

India’s Akshay Sharma was the closest to keeping pace, closing the second round on 14-under-par, three behind Jamal. Yet while Sharma remained steady, Jamal’s relentless consistency saw him stretch his advantage further. By the end of the third round on 25 September, he had moved to 23-under, tightening his grip on the championship.

Jamal said, “I’m elated to have finally won this season after having come close on a couple of occasions earlier this year. I would’ve loved to come out and play the final round but the weather is not in our hands. However, I feel I was quite consistent through the week thanks to my driving and putting. The first round of 61 just set up the tournament for me.

“My next big goal is to perform well and make a mark in the DP World India Championship in Delhi next month. I feel my form is building up well leading into that event.”

The rain may have prevented a final-day contest, but Jamal’s dominance across the three completed rounds left little doubt about the outcome. In lifting the trophy on 26 September, the Bangladeshi golfer reaffirmed his class and added yet another milestone to his impressive PGTI career.
