Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) has called for global cooperation to overcome existing barriers and accelerate the government’s initiatives for expanding sustainable solar energy.
BSREA General Secretary Engineer Md Ataur Rahman Sarkar Rozel made the appeal while participating in several roundtable meetings held at the United Nations Headquarters and Bloomberg Philanthropies’ headquarters in New York.
The meetings were organised on 22 and 23 September during New York Climate Week by the Global Solar Council (GSC) and Bloomberg Philanthropies, marking the first-ever worldwide gathering of solar photovoltaic associations.
Rozel stressed that economic and institutional development must go hand in hand with collaborative international efforts to ensure the sustainable expansion of solar energy.
During the sessions, representatives from different countries said that national and regional solar associations are key drivers of the industry’s growth, but their influence is often undermined by capacity constraints.
According to the organisers, the workshops were designed to provide a platform for strategy exchange, strengthen core communication skills, and build long-term collaboration so the global solar sector can speak with a unified and stronger voice.
Delegates from the United States, Germany, Colombia, Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Australia, the United Kingdom, Brazil, various African nations, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) joined the discussions.
From Bangladesh, BSREA senior vice president Zahidul Alam and BSREA finance director also took part in the global gathering.
