BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has commented that a university is not an orphanage where one can run grandiose campaigns by donating 100 beds.

Rizvi made this remark while delivering the keynote address at a discussion session on the book “Theoretical Analysis of Bangladeshi Nationalism: The Crisis of Civic and Ethnic Nationalism” written by Dr Maruf Mallik, organised by the “7 November Generation” at the National Press Club in the capital on Sunday.

Rizvi stated, “We have always seen their activities as creating a state within a state. They have provided iron beds in the halls. Is this the responsibility of a political organisation or DUCSU? A university is not an orphanage where you donate 100 iron beds and dining tables and run propaganda campaigns.”

Rizvi questioned the powers of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President (VP), saying, “Has the VP of the university been granted magisterial powers? He imposes fines of Tk3,000 and deposits them into Jamaat’s Baitul Mal. Is there any legal basis for this?”

This senior BNP leader alleged that deep conspiracies are underway against the country’s independence and sovereignty, stating, “There might be a mischievous child in a family. It must be seen whether the parents are disciplining that mischievous child. In a planned manner, an adviser to the government first starts disinformation, and then a political party amplifies it. Various narratives are being constructed against BNP.”

The discussion was chaired by Professor Selim Bhuiyan. Also present at the discussion were BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moeen Khan, Yaser Wardad Tonmoy, and others.
