A newly built bridge in Ramnathpara, Boro Hazratpur Union, Mithapukur Upazila, remains largely unusable due to the lack of approach roads, despite being completed nearly a year ago.
Intended to improve access for five nearby villages, the bridge has become a daily hazard for locals, reports UNB.
With no proper road connections, villagers have constructed temporary bamboo ladders to reach the bridge, a perilous solution that becomes dangerously slippery during the monsoon season.
The makeshift crossing has led to several injuries, with students, the elderly, and patients at risk.
The bridge, constructed at a cost of Tk 30 lakh by M/s Muntaha Construction under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, is just 100 meters from a nearby road but remains inaccessible.
Locals are frustrated by the delay, with some lamenting the disruption to education and daily activities.
Farmers also suffer as their produce cannot be transported without a vehicular route.
Around 20,000 to 25,000 people from five villages are struggling to move freely.
The contractor has promised to complete the roadwork by December, citing waterlogged conditions as the cause of the delay.
Authorities, including PIO Moniruzzaman Sarkar and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Multamis Billah, are working to resolve the issue urgently.
Locals call for immediate action to make the bridge fully functional and avoid further delays.
