Shipping Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain on Sunday emphasised the core values of all religions—human welfare, peace, and patriotism—during a programme organised by the Gulshan-Banani Sarbojanin Puja Foundation in the capital to celebrate Shubho Mahalaya 1432.
Addressing attendees, Dr Sakhawat urged people of all faiths to work towards the welfare of the country, stating, “Every religion inspires us to stand against injustice, oppression, and wrongdoing. It provides an opportunity for self-purification and encourages the spirit of humanitarian service and patriotism.”
Highlighting the significance of Durga Puja as a universal festival in Bangladesh, Dr Sakhawat remarked that the Sharadiya Durgotsab has been celebrated with grandeur for centuries, both in Bangladesh and worldwide. “This festival is not just for the Hindu community; it belongs to everyone in Bangladesh. Its celebration removes man-made divisions and inequalities, fostering a sense of compassion and brotherhood,” he added.
The adviser also extended warm greetings to members of the Sanatan community on the occasion of Durga Puja. He assured the public that the government had made all necessary preparations to ensure the festival’s peaceful and joyful celebration across the country.
Dr Sakhawat further called on all to remain vigilant to prevent any efforts by vested quarters to disturb the peace during the festivities.
The event was attended by the president, general secretary, and other members of the Gulshan-Banani Sarbojanin Puja Foundation.
