Juventus claimed a dramatic 4-3 victory over Inter Milan at the Allianz Stadium on 13 september, with substitute Vasilije Adzic striking a sensational stoppage-time winner to send the hosts top of Serie A.
The clash lived up to its billing as the Derby d’Italia, producing seven goals, two comebacks, and a decisive moment of brilliance at the death.
Juventus struck first in the 14th minute when Gleison Bremer’s knockdown found Lloyd Kelly, who steered home his first goal for the club. Inter responded on the half-hour as Hakan Calhanoglu swept in Carlos Augusto’s pass with a first-time finish.
The hosts regained their lead soon after, with Kenan Yildiz turning Bremer’s pass on the edge of the box before firing beyond Yann Sommer. But Calhanoglu struck again in the 65th minute, chesting down a loose ball and rifling in from distance to level for a second time.
Inter appeared to have completed the turnaround when Marcus Thuram powered in a header from a corner on 76 minutes. Yet the Thuram family subplot deepened when his younger brother Kephren, with their father Lilian watching from the stands, headed home Yildiz’s free-kick just eight minutes from time.
With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Adzic delivered a stunning finale. Gathering a pass from Jonathan David, the Montenegrin midfielder unleashed a long-range strike that flew beyond Sommer and sparked wild celebrations among the home crowd.
“For me, it’s a dream,” Adzic said. “I stepped into such a passionate match, and I’ve been waiting forever for a moment like this. We’ll fight for the title.”
Juventus coach Igor Tudor admitted his side may have ridden their luck: “The victory arrived, I don’t know if you could say it was deserved. A draw would have been fairer, but that’s football.”
The win lifts Juventus to nine points from three matches, three clear of Napoli, Cremonese and Roma, who each have a game in hand. Inter, meanwhile, remain on three points following back-to-back defeats after their 2-1 loss to Udinese last week.
