Jahangirnagar University (JU) will remain closed on Sunday as election activities linked to the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and hall unions continue to stretch into the weekend.
The decision was announced in a notice signed by Registrar ABM Azizur Rahman on Saturday. It said all classes and administrative offices will remain closed, while examinations scheduled for the day have been deferred.
However, admission procedures for first-year undergraduate students of the 2024–25 session will continue. Faculty and staff engaged in admissions have been asked to attend work as usual.
According to the notice, the university will reopen on Monday with regular classes and office activities resuming, though postponed final examinations will remain on hold until further notice.
The shutdown follows four days of intensive election operations on campus. Voting concluded on Thursday, but counting dragged into its third day on Saturday. The election commission said it expects to publish the final results by evening.
