Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited has been renamed Nevian Lifescience PLC following the acquisition of its 60 percent shares at Tk 241 crore by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited from Novartis AG Switzerland earlier this year.
The transition, which has fulfilled all statutory and regulatory requirements, ensures a smooth changeover while the shareholding status of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) remains unchanged, the company said in a press statemenet.
Novartis, a Swiss pharmaceutical leader with over 250 years of innovation in healthcare, first entered the Bangladeshi market in 1973 as Ciba-Geigy (Bangladesh) Limited, in partnership with BCIC. After the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz AG in 1996, the company became Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited.
With Novartis AG’s recent decision to divest its stake in Bangladesh, the company now moves forward under the new name of Nevian Lifescience PLC, continuing the legacy of the global pharmaceutical innovator.
Nevian Lifescience PLC will continue providing access to Novartis’ global brands manufactured under license, maintaining the same production processes, quality standards, and facilities. The company will also import and distribute Novartis’ life-saving medicines in Bangladesh, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to healthcare excellence.
Nevian Lifescience PLC Managing Director Musawath Shams Zahedee said, “Nevian represents continuity of the legacy and commitment to a better tomorrow. While the name is new, our promise remains unchanged — to ensure and expand access to trusted, life-saving medicines for patients in Bangladesh and beyond.”
Nevian Lifescience PLC, with its state-of-the-art EUGMP-certified manufacturing facility in Tongi, has already partnered with Swiss pharmaceutical giant Sandoz to continue exporting products to global markets.
The company is working towards expanding exports to the USA, Europe, and other developed countries, positioning Bangladesh as a dependable global hub for high-quality pharmaceutical products.
The company remains committed to the highest standards of quality and patient safety, while striving to minimize its environmental impact and carbon footprint, according to the statement.
